Global Engineering | A 100 billion HK dollar project, CKS spray polyurea waterproof coating fully support the world-class airport!
2025-03-27

Within a 4-hour flight radius, the major cities in the Asia-Pacific region are accessible, and a 5-hour flight radius covers more than half of the global population. Connecting to over 200 destinations worldwide, the 3-Runway System at Hong Kong International Airport is now officially fully operational!

HongKong international AirportIt is a significant infrastructure project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and a milestone for Hong Kong’s construction industry. With an investment exceeding HKD 140 billion, the project is equivalent to reclaiming land and constructing a new airport on the same scale as the existing one.

CKS Group aligns with national strategies and collaborates closely with partners in the Hong Kong region, leveraging its extensive experience in waterproofing construction for world-class airports. Adhering to international engineering standards, CKS Group works in synergy with major infrastructure projects, providing construction services for the T2 Concourse and apron works of the 3-Runway System at Hong Kong International Airport, contributing to the system’s expansion.

The project is located in the newly reclaimed 650-hectare area on the Hong Kong Airport Island, with a total construction area of approximately 310,000 square meters. It includes a passenger terminal building, contact stands, remote stands, connecting taxiways, taxi lanes, auxiliary buildings, and municipal works within the apron area.

The construction area of the project involves aircraft takeoff, landing, and parking functions, as well as cargo loading, unloading, storage, and transportation. It must meet specific requirements such as wear resistance, impact resistance, and corrosion protection to ensure the normal operation of aircraft and the safety of flights.

CKS Group recommends the use of Spraying-applied Polyurea Waterproof Coating, a new green coating product developed and promoted in line with international waterproofing trends. With a 100% solid content, it is free of volatile solvents, heavy metals, and VOCs, meeting environmental assessment standards for construction and the requirements for sustainable development.

CKS Spray Polyurea Waterproofing System

During the construction process, isocyanate and amine compounds in the Spraying-applied Polyurea Waterproof Coating undergo a mixing reaction through the spraying process, forming a dense, seamless, and continuous protective layer.

Physical and chemical performance tests have demonstrated that Spraying-applied Polyurea Waterproof Coating offers high tensile strength, excellent elongation, abrasion resistance, and impact resistance. It also exhibits outstanding crack-bridging properties, ensuring long-term protection of the building substrate. CKS Spray Polyurea Coating      CKS Spray Polyurea Coating

Moreover, the project is located in a reclaimed area subject to high-temperature, high-salinity, and high-humidity marine conditions. These harsh environmental factors demand exceptional strength, resistance to acid and alkali corrosion, and fatigue performance from the waterproof materials.

Polyurea coatings offer strong weather resistance and rigidity, effectively preventing the infiltration of moisture and oxygen. They combine waterproofing, seepage resistance, corrosion protection, and safeguarding properties in one solution. The application of spraying technology allows for fast-drying film formation, making the construction process convenient and ensuring high-quality progress in project development.

Starting from the end of 2024, the 3-Runway System at Hong Kong International Airport is officially  operational. The airport is expected to accommodate an annual passenger throughput of 120 million passengers and an annual cargo volume of 10 million tons.

The new brand “SKYTOPIA” under Hong Kong’s “Airport City” development blueprint has been officially unveiled. It aims to establish a world-class landmark that integrates business activities, pop culture, art trading, and leisure entertainment. This initiative will drive the long-term vision of transforming Hong Kong International Airport from a “city airport” into an “airport city.”

CKS Group is actively participating in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s “world-class airport cluster.” During this critical strategic period of the “Airport City” initiative, the company will deepen its international market presence, expand business growth opportunities, and provide strong impetus for its high-quality development, leveraging its expertise in advanced building materials and waterproofing solutions.
